Commitment to Quality

The Board of Directors and all Employees of Smyth Steel Limited are committed to providing customers with the highest quality of service, meeting fully all contractual requirements in addition to any applicable legal and statutory obligations. Our focus on quality is one of the defining characteristics of our Company with our aim being to always meet or exceed customer expectations. We operate a Quality Management System for the Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steelwork in accordance with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001:2015. We also maintain a Factory Control System in accordance with BS EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011 attaining the highest class of certification, Execution Class 4. This qualifies us to undertake all steelwork projects including multi-storey buildings, power stations, structures subject to seismic activity and sports stadia.

Engagement of Staff

We aim to recruit and retain highly motivated competent staff. Our people are seen as our most important resource and are the source of our strength. Staff members are encouraged to review working practices and suggest methods for improvement.

Process Approach

We promote the use of planned processes in our operations and the application of risk based thinking. The requirements of this management system are communicated to all staff and should be considered mandatory for all employees.


We are committed to the continuous improvement of the products and services that we provide and to the effectiveness of our Quality Management System. We assess the context of our organisation, interested parties, risks and opportunities, set objectives and monitor our progress towards their successful achievement. We ensure our focus is maintained on enhancing customer satisfaction. Product quality is reviewed via data collected from quality checks, wherever practical we will make improvements so that production costs are reduced and the potential for error in manufacture is minimised.


The Board of Directors ensure that all resources required for the effective operation of the Quality Management System are available including finance, training, support and encouragement. Resource requirements are reviewed at regular Board and Management meetings. Roles and responsibilities are determined and reviewed to ensure they remain appropriate to our aims.


This policy is communicated to all employees and organisations working on our behalf. Copies are available on company notice boards and our website. The policy is available to all interested parties upon request.


Our Quality Management System is externally audited by NQA Certification Limited and has been certified as meeting the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001:2015.

Certification to BS EN 1090-1:2009+A1:2011 is by Element Materials Technology / BM Trada.
